Leading Outside Your Comfort Zone

Benji mentioned leading in the choir and orchestra led services which are a bit outside his wheelhouse.

A lot of churches, especially the smaller churches, rely on a single paid musician to handle the musical components of all the services in various styles. Do you have any suggestions for someone who is more at home conducting choirs and orchestras who finds themselves leading a worship team? Particularly on rehearsal strategies?

hmmm...

That sounds like a member mail question.

Song leaders versus 'rock stars'

This is why I getup at 530 AM on Sundays; to meet with God, and we did. Thank you.

We're a new church-plant, our first AM service is on 12/24; right now we're meeting at 530 PM Sundays. I am leading a small team of newbies and it makes me think of the feelings my leaders must have had when I was a 'newb' Why aren't these people better? Why don't they play this way?... Maybe I should keep doing it myself?...

I am a song leader, not a rock star. We're not on tour, we're not selling CD's, we're not putting on a show. We are leading people who are singing praise to God; thats it. They make mistakes, we do and will make mistakes too. I ask ahead of time to please forgive us when we do. :-)

Thanks, Benji. Thanks guys.
