Using God Given Creativity with Anna Golden
Podcast Episode #157
Anna Golden started her music career as a Britney Spears for Jesus.
You’ll have to listen to the podcast to understand. Now, she leads worship full time and is the first worship artist to release an album on Tasha Cobb Leonard's imprint, TeeLee Records. Her journey is a story of God’s guidance and faithfulness.
Here are some highlights from this incredibly entertaining podcast:
On being a child celebrity
As humans we were all created to worship and when that’s directed towards a person, it will literally crush their soul. You have so much pressure. We’ve all got a lot of mess and no one can live up to what God lives up to. Leading worship was my refuge because I got to reflect the glory to God instead of absorb it myself.
On letting God handle it
I never planned on being a worship artist. I loved being a local worship leader. It was enough. I told God I don’t want to get back into the music industry. I don’t want to develop strategic relationships. I don’t want to work a room. I had done enough of that and it felt gross, but God said He would take care of it if I just made music that reflected His heart so I said “okay”.
On breaking borders
I think genre is going away. As artists we can get boxed in by what our listeners want, but God gives you lots of gifts and I think He wants you to use all sides of your creativity. I didn't have a model for what I was doing, I just felt led to do it.
On the church
It’s easy to get hurt in ministry, but learning the heart of God and His character has helped me separate the work of God and the work of His people. People are broken but God is not. The church doesn’t always have a good name, but the local church is good. It’s where people go when they are truly in need and it’s an honor and a responsibility to have influence and the Church will continue to have it if we continue to serve.
