Daniel, you said on the resources podcast that you keep your Tech 21 PBDR SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver DI, with 3 fairly "standard" settings. What settings do you use for each one?

Thanks!

Transcription bass lines

As a bass player I find transcriptions, and even Tab, for bass is very limited. This means we have to rely on the ability to hear the bass line, which is something that can be difficult for the untrained ear or, more commonly, the bass is buried in the mix. What method or program/equipment does Daniel use or recommend for isolating or enhancing the hear-ability of a bass line?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Anytune

I use the program Anytune (https://anytune.us) on my MacBook Pro to figure out more complicated bass lines. It has a filter setting which emphasizes the bass line. It also has a feature where you can slow down the speed of the music without changing the pitch. There is also a Window version.

I agree the transcriptions are very limited, sometimes they contain errors (e.g. wrong notes, wrong octave, questionable rhythms). Don't get me wrong. I do appreciate them and use them as a starting place for figuring a bass part.

I guess we're going to have to fire Daniel ;)

Seriously, if you run into any transcription errors, it would be helpful if you would shoot a quick email to support@worshipartistry.com so we can correct them. Just let us know the song and the section that's incorrect.

Beginner

In my opinion it is best for beginners to play with out amps. Just the sound acousticly from the bass this is how you develop tone.

Fishman aura spectrum DI

Hello Jason,

I’m interested in the fishman aura spectrum, just wondered what thoughts you had on it? Something worth getting to use when playing at church? Thanks for your help!

I just bought one a month ago

and was planning to do a review on it. I love it! I generally use it live with the mic signal blended in around 11:00. It's better for fingerpicking and light strumming than really digging in though it works for that too.
