Advent Week 2: Peace on Earth
The second week of advent is focused on the peace declared by the angels.
Advent is a season of anticipation. In the first week we embraced the hope for the season and in this second week we focus on peace. The theme of peace in Advent is centered on the wholeness and tranquility that Jesus brings to the world. It also reminds us that Christ's coming is meant to reconcile humanity with God and with one another.
Readings
Isaiah 9:6-7
""For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace, there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this."
Isaiah 40:3-5
“A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.’”
