Advent Week 1: Embracing the Hope of the Season

The first week of advent is focused on the anticipation and hope of our Savior's arrival.

Advent is a season of anticipation, and Week 1 invites us to reflect on the gift of hope symbolized by the Hope Candle, also known as the Prophecy Candle. It represents the promises of God and the hope that sustains us as we await the coming of Christ. Join us this week as we focus on the anticipation and hope of our Savior's arrival.

Readings

Isaiah 9:2, 6-7

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. [...] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”

Alternate Readings

Psalm 122; Isaiah 2:2-5; Romans 13:11-14

Thank you!

We don't have all the same songs in our repertoire, but its so helpful to know what others are planning for their setlist! I've been thinking about Jesus Messiah (Tomlin) with a Christmas twist - like reading from Isaiah as a bridge... And I always feel like Silent Night is too 'Christmas Eve-y with candles' to do before Christmas! (I know its my problem, I'll deal with it!)
