The Hunt for Father’s Day Song Ideas
Every year, worship leaders all around the world go through their repertoire of music to find ones that will work for Father’s Day. Praise, worship, gospel songs... the options are endless. After all, this holiday is a wonderful opportunity to not only reflect on the beauty of a father’s heart and how our parents care for us but to remember our heavenly father and the deep love our Lord has for us as well.
As a worship leader, you have the unique opportunity to help your church community to reflect on the paternal nature of God and how He loves us as our Father. What an honor! So, the question remains – how do you find a song that can do just that?
The Mix of Feelings That Father’s Day Can Bring
Often, a preacher will take a Father’s Day service as an opportunity to discuss the parental nature of God’s care and love for us. He is, after all, our heavenly father. However, it’s important to remember that this day can be a hard one for many people. Father’s Day can mean different things for everyone – some celebrating a close relationship with their own father, reflecting on complicated feelings, or even grieving the loss of their father. Remember that everyone's experience of a father-child relationship is different.
Approach your setlist by first thinking about all the different feelings the congregation may be carrying with them this Father’s Day, and find music that can serve everyone uniquely. Many people will need a reminder of how God’s love can fill gaps, and how He is ultimately the only father we need. Even in the absence of an earthly Dad, we can carve our own identity with the guidance of the ultimate role model and father figure.
Christian worship songs to Celebrate Our Heavenly Father
Ultimately, the Christian worship songs you select need to be chosen with the wider church service in mind. When putting together your setlist of songs for Father's Day, keep in mind the themes that are probably going to be driving the service. Father's Day is a celebration of a father's love, both our own dads as well as the heavenly father who gave his only son for us.
As the church gathers in the Father's house, we have a beautiful opportunity to reflect on how deep the Father's love for us truly is. This is a great chance for the congregation to not only reflect on our own families but also honor and celebrate how fortunate we are to be children of heaven. Whether you select hymns or more contemporary songs, these are the themes that you should be aiming to reflect.

Remember: You’re Part of a Team
Sometimes, as a worship leader, the stress can get overwhelming. Particularly on days like Father’s Day, there is a certain expectation that you’ll be able to compile a perfect on-theme setlist. If you’re new to leading a worship team, Sunday services that happen to fall on ‘special’ holidays like these can be daunting. You could choose wrong, the setlist might not fit, the congregation might not like it…
Just remember that the service isn’t entirely on your shoulders. You don’t have to feel like you carry all the pressure yourself! You’re a part of a bigger team. Be sure to collaborate with other members of your worship team to figure out the best path forward that plays to your strengths. It’s also a good idea to chat with your pastor or lead preacher for Father’s Day. Hearing about the topics they’ll cover during their message can help inspire some ideas for worship songs that will complement nicely.
And, of course, be sure to invite God into your decision-making process. Pray over your song choices and the words that the church will need to hear, and prioritize serving God through your music choices.

Song Missing

A major song missing from this list is How Deep the Father's Love for Us. Sad and puzzled as to why it did not make the list. It would be the best song on this list. Written by Stuart Townend and then the "refresh" that Austin Stone Worship did for it, it is an amazing song and one that Worship Artistry has taught. We will be playing it next week.
Great point!

It's not a comprehensive list but that would make a great addition.
